Fashion for big size ladies

Anybody else starting to dream about Fall? For me personally, I’m over this heat. These temperatures are just too hot and I’m ready for things to start cooling down. It’s also a very weird time in fashion because Fall clothing is starting to pop up all of the place. I mean, I even saw Halloween decorations in the store the other day! So needless to say it creates a bit of a dilemma when the weather is still warm but our options for clothing are jackets, long sleeve tops and the like. So yea, Fall, I’m ready for ya.

In the meantime, we have to make the best of the situation since Fall is still pretty far away. You can do that by infusing some of next season’s styles into your Summer wardrobe. Think light and airy fabrics that have somewhat of an Autumn feel. I thought that this blouse from Pretty Little Thing was just that. It is actually a wrap blouse however I decided to wear it open in a kimono fashion. It not only makes the garment more breathable but it allows me to wear it in many different ways.

So hold on just a little while longer and get your Summer to Fall transition pieces ready. Stay cool out there ladies!

The Summertime is marked full of fun parties and events. Everyone wants to take full advantage of the warm weather, sunshine and long days. The event that seems to pop up the most are weddings. Who doesn’t love a Summertime wedding? The only problem is when you have to decide what to wear. Formal wear for plus size women is already difficult to find but finding a special occasion dress that is also Summer proof can seem impossible. It has to be the perfect blend of comfort, style and functionality (the ultimate trifecta). I’ve put together some of my favorite styles for the season along with this chic ruffle dress to hopefully help your process a little bit easier. And of course, these looks don’t have to solely be worn at weddings but they can translate to any special event that you have coming up.

So let’s start off with the dress that I’m wearing. Summer wedding attire and just Summer fashion in general is all about color. This hot pink color immediately caught my eye and was the perfect hue for the season. On top of the color, I absolutely loved the ruffle detail that gives off a very fun & flirty vibe.

Below I’ve listed a few other dresses that I think would be perfect to end this Summer dress season. Love is in the air so your outfit should be loved as well!

Plus size women wearing crop tops has been quite a controversial topic. There are many opinions about whether we can or really if we should be wearing these types of things. For many years, fashion publications and the media have said that crop tops are not flattering for our bodies. One publication in response to the question if someone could pull off a crop top responded “If (and only if!) you have a flat stomach, feel free to try one.” Luckily, much of the conversation surrounding limitations of plus size fashion has shifted but there still are lingering misconceptions. So let’s clear this up once and for all!

I mean, do you really need me to answer this question? The answer is yes! No matter what your size or shape, you can absolutely wear a crop top. Now, how you decide to rock it based on what you’re most comfortable with is up to you. But there is no reason why any plus size woman should be excluded from this style.

Ways to Wear Plus Size Crop Tops

There are so many different ways that you can rock a plus size crop top. It doesn’t have to show a lot of your midsection if you don’t want it to. You can dictate how much or how little based on your comfort level. For me, I like to show a little sliver of my tummy so I opt to rock my crop tops with high waist garments. Pencil skirts with elastic waistbands make the perfect pairing because you can pull it up or down and it will stay in place. I’ve done this many times before with this matching crochet set and this fun striped top and black pencil skirt. Another way that I love to style crop tops is by putting a blazer on with it as I did with this look. Longer blazers help to provide some covering and really make the look appear more elevated.

Lastly, if you would prefer to pair your plus size crop top with something a little less fitted on the bottom, you can opt for a midi skirt. These skirts naturally sit higher on your waist and flow away from your body. You really don’t have to show any of your midsection at all and can still get the crop top look. These are only some of the ways that you can rock your crop but the main point is that you can wear them.

In true TrendyCurvy fashion, whenever there is some limitation put on what I can wear, I not only debunk it but I do it in a big way. Along with rocking my crop top, I decided to have a little fun with it by mixing up the prints. It not only adds a unique element to the look but it stands out which is exactly what I wanted to do. With a pink pump to finish it off, my mixed print, pop of color, plus size crop top look was complete!

I started blogging in September of 2013. I was just like any other person in that I was working in an office trying to make use of my college degree. My plan was simple. Get jobs in the Marketing field of which I received my degree in and gradually work my way up the corporate ladder (pretty standard for a college grad). I really had no intentions of doing anything else. Then came blogging. Social media really opened my eyes to other like-minded women who were plus size yet still loved fashion. It was such an exciting time to discover these bloggers, fashionistas and activists of whom I had no knowledge of prior to. Up until then, the only available resources were the media, which we know was nonexistent for plus size women, and my own environment. Needless to say that I was inspired!

Growing Up Plus

For most of my adolescence and throughout high school, I was “plus size” in that I was bigger than the majority of my friends. Contrary to popular belief though, I was not really insecure about it. Of course, every teenage girl has her fair share of insecurities but I did not let my body hold me back. I played sports, dated, was very social and was even nominated by my peers for Homecoming queen in high school. I loved shopping with my friends even though sometimes my size just wasn’t there. Fortunately, I had a very supportive upbringing that really made weight a non-issue.

Much of the media story lines surrounding bigger girls include her being insecure, unpopular, unfashionable, etc. and I just could never relate. So when I finally was introduced to blogging, I had found a community that I never knew existed but always knew I belonged in. I was still very hesitant to start my own blog though, but with the encouragement (and push) of my loved ones, TrendyCurvy was born. The rest is history. I began to receive confirmation that this was my true path from countless women of whom I’ve inspired. It’s really a ripple effect from being inspired to now inspiring and beyond. This is what I was meant to do and this is my perfect fit.

When something fits you, you feel most confident and secure. That goes for your career path, relationships and of course clothing. I am constantly harping about making sure your clothes fit your body. It’s not about measurements or the number on the label but it’s about how it makes you feel. You know when something is a perfect fit for you.

Last month, I announced that Express extended their sizing up to a size 18 in store as well as online. It’s always exciting when brands strive to service a wider range of bodies. While not a complete plus size extension, it’s still very much plus friendly and I was very curious to try their denim. I am a true size 18 so I was nervous about whether or not their denim would fit me. That’s typically a key factor for size extensions is how their denim follows suit. I am so pleased to say that their denim not only fit but fit well! They have stretch so they just conformed around my every curve.

Finding the perfect fit in your career, love life and even a pair of denim can be a liberating experience. What you remember most is how you felt as though it was made just for you and that is priceless.

Be sure to shop Express’ extended sizing and check out below for some other denim favorites of mine!
